Closing off a hallway was the easiest answer to this puzzling question

The thoroughfare from this hall to the west wing on third floor is now closed.

This was one area where the floor height variances were too great to make any useful architectural changes.  So we created a new hallway just on the inside of the wall to the right here to get to the west wing.  Nothing is impossible with God on your side.
