As the rainy weather gives way to sunny or mostly sunny days, progress on the new addition is happening quickly.

Work crews are putting into place the last of the metal wall supports and dropping on the sub-roofing material.

It is noisy, to say the least, but at last the weather is cooperating.  We would not want it any other way.

Building is like putting together a jigsaw puzzle; you have to do it piece by piece.

You have a plan (architectural blueprint) and the pieces (bricks, steel and wood) and you have cleared a space to put it all together (construction site).

The work crews are fitting our new entryway together piece by piece.  It’s starting to look like the picture on the box…that is, if we had a box.

With the renovation of the old parts of the monastery we are creating a new entry and  a new elevator shaft.  These new parts of our building are underway and will soon blend in architecturally and visually.

The new entry area, a mixture of old and new, will house the reception area, gathering spaces, a gift shop and some office space. It’s still in the early stages:

It will also provide a level access into our library along with other office spaces. It will be a lovely blend of old and new.

Its loveliness is hidden right now, but soon it will be revealed. Patience is called for, and it has been rewarded thus far.

Oh, we’re excited to see the latest renderings of the new entry to our Clyde monastery!

This is how the main entry will look:

This is how the wing on the east side will appear (point of view from the west):

And this is how the end of the west wing will appear now that the Marian Wing has been removed (point of view from the south):

It has been so important to us to maintain the historical integrity of the main house. By recycling many of the stones and other features of the deconstructed areas, we will be able to match the unaltered parts of the building to make the complete project look seamless. We are very grateful to our architectural and construction staff for helping make that possible.

With warmer weather comes more outdoor work, including laying the foundation for the new entry.

The weather finally permitted the big day – cement laying.  A crew of several men worked at mixing, pouring and smoothing the cement for the foundation for the new entry way.

Paving the way for our guests

‘Twas a welcome sight for us all, just like we hope the new entrance will be for the visitors that will come in the future.  We are confident that they will appreciate the absence of multiple steps, making hospitality to our guests much easier to practice!

Happy New Year! Today is the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. We also get to honor our Sisters Deanna, Ginny and Valerie for their Name Day.

We also have another reason to celebrate – we’re halfway through our monastery renovations! Crews continue to renovate the existing structure to create new living spaces and are completing the installation of the geothermal energy system.

Our new entry might look like this

We continue to meet with architects, putting the finishing touches on design…including the new front entry, which could incorporate the light-banded brick detail above and below windows, matching that of the current building.
