For over 130 years, the main entrance to our monastery was on the west side.

It’s been difficult to imagine how a southern entrance would look.

But now – thanks to the hard work of our dedicated crew – we’re beginning to get an idea:

Crews work on the new front entrance

The term for a new area for construction is called an imprint.  Our entrance will be a new addition to the south side of our monastery.  Its footprint is quite large.  Here the workmen are shoring up the supports for the concrete that will be poured.  The day has been so gray and foggy, just like pea soup.

Today's weather almost obscures the water tower

Crews prepare the area for new addition

Here we are looking out the window on the first floor, toward the southwest. You can see the excavation where footings will be poured for the new single-story addition/main entrance.

We are so excited about our new main entrance. By switching it from the west to the south side of the monastery, we eliminate dozens of stairs for entry. This way, our guests can access our monastery and chapels without having to maneuver stairs. Plus, we’ll have more room for parking, including tour buses.
