St. Benedict instructs us to follow a life filled with Ora et Labora, Work and Prayer. Handcrafting products for Monastery Creations is a large part of that, so we are always grateful for extra hands, especially at our smallest community, San Benito Monastery in Dayton, Wyo.

Recently, Jane Medved and her sister, Susann, helped Sisters Hope and Regina label 320 jars of arnica salve.

Arnica is a flower that is only found in the mountains. Sister Hope and Jean and Jim McCabe helped pick the flowers on a Sunday afternoon. On the following Thursday, Sister Hope, Sister Josetta, Barbara Ransbottom and Jean picked hundreds more!

Arnica is used for pain and inflammation. Sister Hope handcrafts it into salve, each year increasing production. You can learn more about this wonderful product here.

Members of all ages of St. Edmund’s Church, along with Knights of Columbus and their families, spent time lending their skills to help out at our San Benito Monastery in Dayton, Wyo.

They spent time washing windows, making small repairs and cleaning a variety of community spaces.

“They worked so hard, and, as always, we are very grateful for all their wonderful work,” said Sister Josetta, superior of the San Benito Monastery.

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12).

Our San Benito Monastery Sisters welcomed special visitors a few days ago.

Women from Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheridan, Wyo., visited our Sisters in nearby Dayton for a Lenten day retreat. The event included a potluck meal and words from Father Jim Heiser of Holy Name parish.

“The ladies always enjoy the time they spend with us at the monastery,” Superior Sister Josetta Grant, OSB said. “It was a wonderful way to begin the Holy Season of Lent.”

As always, we are blessed to be surrounded by such terrific neighbors and friends. It makes our hearts full.
