Today the Church honors St. Ambrose (340-397), a Doctor of the Church who was revered for his faith, courage and scholarship.

St. Ambrose said, “When you are in Rome, live in the Roman style.” Of course, today that phrase has been altered to “When in Rome, do as the Romans.” He is also credited with saying, “Where there is Peter, there is the Church,” and “There is no time of life past learning something.”

Indeed, a very wise man.

Lord, teach me to seek You, and reveal Yourself to me when I seek You.
For I cannot seek You unless You first teach me, nor find You, unless You
first reveal Yourself to me.
Let me seek You in longing, and long for You in seeking.
Let me find You in love, and love You in finding. Amen.
